Consistency ruled yet again as California’s Pechanga Band of Luiseño Indians re-elected most of their council, with Mark Macarro leading as chairman.

Macarro Re-Elected as Pechanga Chairman

The widely respected chairman of the Pechanga Band of Luiseño Indians, Mark Macarro, was re-elected last month for his eighth consecutive term heading up the seven-member tribal council.

In addition to Macarro, the tribe also re- elected Mark Calac, Corrina R. Garbani, Andrew Masiel, Sr., Russell “Butch” Murphy and Ken Perez. Marc Luker did not seek another term in office, and Benjamin Vasqez was elected in his place.

“I am sincerely humbled to have the opportunity to serve the Pechanga people as tribal chairman for another two years,” Macarro said in a statement. “Serving our people in elected office is a privilege and an honor.”

Macarro is a graduate of UC Santa Barbara and serves on the board of several notable Indian organizations, including the National Congress of American Indians, the National Indian Gaming Association, and the Harvard Project on American Indian Development.
