Global Draw, Videobet, Ladbrokes in U.K. FOBT Deal

Fri, Aug 13, 2010

A recently announced fixed-odds betting terminal deal in the U.K. combines actors and technology from just about every gaming sector imaginable.

The Global Draw Ltd. will supply 7,600 fixed-odds betting terminals to betting and gaming operator Ladbrokes. The terminals will operate on the state-of-the-art platform from Videobet, with whom Global Draw has a technology partnership.

Global Draw Ltd. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Scientific Games Corporation. Videobet is a subsidiary of online gaming software supplier Playtech.

The four-year agreement will see new cabinets provided in 95 percent of Ladbrokes’ 2,170 U.K. betting shops. The contract is the largest in Global Draw’s 13 years in business. Installation is expected to start in early 2011.

The Videobet server-based gaming platform allows real-time reporting and content management, plus at the front end the use of advanced promotional tools and player-loyalty options. Videobet will cover a portion of the capital expenditure and participate in the results.

Global Draw has developed games in-house specifically for betting shops, licensed titles from Hasbro and has access to the content library and licensed intellectual property of Videobet. Global Draw continues to work with select third-party suppliers and has agreed a wider content arrangement with IGT subsidiary Barcrest Group.

Richard Ames, managing director of Ladbrokes Retail, said in a press release, “The betting industry is highly competitive and machines are an increasingly important part of the overall trading mix for betting shops. This agreement with Global Draw is a reflection of the high standards of service and support we have received from the company since machine trials started with them in 84 of our shops last July. Since then, a combination of leading content and proven increases in cashbox performance within trial shops has given us the confidence to roll out their solution to a significant proportion of the Ladbrokes estate.”

Phil Horne, managing director of the Global Draw, said, “We are delighted to have achieved growth on such a scale in our supply of machines to Ladbrokes. We have worked together to build a strong partnership during our initial trials and look forward to working together to deliver continued machine income growth. The Global Draw has developed a strong reputation for the quality and reliability of its gaming machines and services as well as the variety and quality of its in-house and licensed game content libraries. Our reputation, combined with the technology tie-up with Videobet, allows us to offer our customers unbeatable terminal and system functionality to drive their machine income and a first class gaming experience for their players.”
