When fire in a building next door spread to and destroyed the original Paris Casino in Blackpool (l. after the fire), the owners went looking for a new and better suited location. They believe they found one in a property next to the local soccer team’s field, with parking.

When Sweden finally decided to permit casinos, the government took every precaution to keep the business on the up-and-up, even going so far as to only grant licenses to the state lottery organization. But state ownership doesn’t seem to be a deterrent to those bent on laundering their cash.

A recent case against a Dutch poker player resulted in a ruling that poker is a game of skill and therefore should not be restricted to casinos. However, until the supreme court reverses its own 1998 ruling, which found poker to be a game of chance, operators are taking a wait-and-see approach.
