Santos Takes Control of Troubled Vegas Casinos

Fri, Aug 27, 2010

Casino veteran Anthony F. Santos was given permission by the Nevada Gaming Commission to take control of three downtown Las Vegas casinos.

Tamares consultant and longtime casino industry player, Anthony F. Santos, will take control of three Vegas properties for which the company acts as landlord.

The Nevada Gaming Commission gave the veteran the final go-ahead to take over operations at the Las Vegas Club Hotel, the Western Hotel and Casino, and the Plaza Hotel and Casino—all of which are under great financial pressure—under the condition that Santos keeps the interests of Tamares completely separate from his new position as operator of the three struggling casinos.

Despite the longtime drop in downtown gaming revenue, Santos has high hopes for the properties. The Plaza will become the Union Plaza once a $20 million dollar loan pulls through and renovations—including upgrades to rooms, slots and restaurants—is completed. The overhaul will take at least a year.
