Novomatic Subsidiary Acquires Greentube

Sat, Feb 06, 2010

One of Europe’s most successful land-based gaming machine suppliers is making its move into the online sphere. Novomatic has chosen fellow Austrian concern Greentube as a fitting partner for its U.K. subsidiary.

Astra Games Limited has taken a majority stake in online content provider Greentube.

Greentube is an Austrian-based provider of skill games, casino games, bingo and related products for a variety of digital media platforms. Browser-based technology enables Greentube to service more than 30 partner websites and a global player base in excess of 10 million within their partner network.

Zane Mersich, managing director of Astra Games, said in a press release, "The acquisition of Astra's majority shareholding in Greentube represents a highly significant step in the further expansion of a recently created business area for Astra Games and our parent company, the Novomatic Group. We aim to become a major player in the online sector and this deal is a very tangible sign of the progress that we are making."

Astra, based in the U.K., is an 18-year veteran producer of gaming machines for various non-casino markets at home and internationally. The company became a subsidiary of Novomatic in 2004.

Greentube will immediately be tasked with taking on the full commercial and R&D responsibility for the Novomatic/Astra developed Novo Remote Gaming System, which provides regulated online gaming markets with successful and proven "best of breed" land-based gaming content.
