London Bid Is Being Challenged
The awarding of a new London casino license to Aspers Group is being challenged in court. The new large casino as defined under the 2005 Gaming Act is intended to promote regeneration of an area, but competing bidder Great Eastern says the regeneration aspect of the Aspers plan falls short.
Sands Bethlehem Previews Hotel
The Sands Casino Resort in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, conducted a tour of the hotel it will open in May. Facilities include several restaurants as well as the first Italian outlet opened by star chef Emeril Lagasse (l.).
Atlantic City Tourism District Approved by CRDA
The new state-sponsored tourism district is seen as the first step on Atlantic City’s road to recovery. The boundaries outlined at a board meeting last week include the entire Boardwalk, the Marina District, Bader Field and some of the back bay waterfront.
Casino at Nassau Coliseum?
That’s the word from insiders, who say the Shinnecock tribe could build an off-reservation gaming hall at the sports arena, plus one closer to home in the Hamptons.
Philippines IR to Be Bigger
The Philippines integrated resort project Belle Grande Manila Bay is now expected to open in the second half of 2012 rather than the fourth quarter of 2011. The developer says the delay is needed to expand the size of the project, given the positive results exhibited by Singapore.
Boom for Wynn Macau, Vegas
The first-quarter numbers are impressive, with a 46 percent spike in Macau, and a 24 percent increase in Las Vegas. Shares are now valued at $1.30—over 22 cents in 2010. Wynn and Encore Las Vegas revenues were up 24 percent.
