Brad Friedmutter has a long history in the casino industry. He got his big break when Steve Wynn hired him as part of his design team prior to the opening of the Mirage and Brad went on to work on some of Wynn’s earlier projects. Striking out on his own, the Friedmutter Group has done some amazing projects including many developed by Harrah’s (now Caesars) Entertainment and Station Casinos. But it was the Cosmopolitan that was going to be the cap on his career. A major Las Vegas Strip project was the only thing lacking on Friedmutter’s resume but he had to sweat out several years of financial uncertainty and changes before he was able to enjoy the opening of what is now one of the Strip’s hottest properties. Friedmutter is joined by his executive vice president Chuck Jones, who was intimately involved in the Cosmpolitan’s design process. They spoke with Global Gaming Business Publisher Roger Gros for the cover story of this month’s Casino Design magazine at their offices in Las Vegas in May.
