Despite its ongoing financial problems, Las Vegas Sands last week said it had enough funding to complete and open the Marina Bay Sands.
The company’s warning two weeks ago of a possible bankruptcy sent government officials scrambling for “Plan B” but LVS COO Bill Weidner said last week that “We have all the money required to be able to complete the project.”

The Illinois Gaming Control Board last week named the three finalists for the state’s 10th and final casino license. There were no surprises, since the three groups bid the most money and were located in the lucrative Chicago suburbs.

One minute after midnight on November 16, a full smoking ban for Atlantic City’s 11 casinos was repealed for at least a year, and the partial ban, which restricts smoking to one-fourth of the gaming floor, once again became law.

With Terry Lanni leaving MGM Mirage, the company’s board of directors appointed current COO and president Jim Murren his replacement.
Lanni suggested Murren for his replacement when he announced his retirement, which is effective December 1. At the same time, he announced he will remain a company director and join the MGM Mirage Diversity Committee.
