Sweden’s gambling self-exclusion system has hit the 100,000 milestone, SBC News reported October 30.

Spelpaus, run by the country’s gambling authority, Spelinspektionen, has been operated since January 1, 2019 in tandem with the relaunch of Sweden’s online gaming market. The system makes certain that those who use it cannot access gaming websites or be marketed to.

Spelpaus 2.0 was relaunched last year as part of the government’s review of gaming consumer protections. It included improved identification verification and included clear instructions for self-exclusion.

This year the government launched a national campaign promoting the program.

In September the government committed to increasing gambling authority’s budget for 2024-2026, which will help Spelinspektionen bring its sports betting integrity monitoring in line with those of most other members of the E.U.
