Opening expected this month
The ultra-luxury 13 Hotel may actually be preparing to open in Macau— this time for real.
On May 25, the Macao Government Tourism Office received an inspection request for the long-awaited luxury hotel on the Cotai-Coloane border. In the planning stages since 2013, the 13 has been beset by financial problems, and set several opening dates that it could not honor, including April 30 of this year. The current opening date is June 30.
“The inspection will be carried out within 20 days of receiving the request,” the MGTO wrote in response to a request from GGRAsia. “If the hotel, food and beverage and other facilities inside the establishment pass the inspection, the licenses will be issued as soon as possible.”
It had been widely rumored that Melco Resorts and Entertainment Ltd would supply the gaming license for the 13 Hotel. But Melco Chairman and CEO Lawrence Ho said that conversation is premature because the property has not been approved for casino gaming by the Macau government.
Last month, 13 Holdings shareholders approved a name change to South Shore Holdings Ltd.
