’15 Reopening for Galaxy’s Grand Waldo

Galaxy Entertainment plans to reopen a refurbished Grand Waldo hotel next year but isn’t saying whether its casino will return. Galaxy bought the resort, which adjoins its flagship Galaxy Macau, last year, and promptly took over its 38 table games.

The Grand Waldo and its casino were closed for extensive renovations last year after Galaxy purchased it for HK.25 billion (US9 million).

It is not known if the property will continue to operate as a casino. Galaxy Vice Chairman Lui said only that the property will be positioned as a family destination to complement Galaxy Macau, which is constructing a second phase that will double its size 3,600 hotel rooms and is slated for completion next year. Plans call for the two resorts to be connected by a pedestrian bridge

Grand Waldo had 38 gaming tables, which have since been distributed between Galaxy and its StarWorld casino on the Macau peninsula.
