WarHorse Gaming is proposing a $200 million hotel and casino complex at the Lincoln Race Course in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The project would showcase the state’s horseracing industry, according to a spokesman for WarHorse. The hotel will be built so that room guests will be able to watch live horseracing from their windows, according to Lynne McNally of the Nebraska Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association. So will guests lazing at the hotel’s second-floor pool.

The casino will have slot machines and gaming tables and a hotel tower adjacent to the recently expanded 7/8ths-mile track.

WarHorse is a subsidiary of the Winnebago Tribe’s Ho-Chunk Inc., which has teamed up with the Association to operate a casino at racetracks in Lincoln, Omaha and South Sioux City.

Lance Morgan, president and chief executive officer of WarHorse, said in a release: “Although we’re still early in the process, it’s exciting to see the potential of a world-class gaming operation for the city of Lincoln and state of Nebraska.” He added, “Our goal is to build a top-notch facility that complements horse racing while at the same time offering a resort style casino/hotel on the property.”

He said construction could begin next year.
