The 24 hour, 7-days a week poker television network Poker Central will debut on October 1. Meanwhile it is searching for shows to populate those hours.
One of the first programs to be announced is a documentary series, “Pokerography,” a program that will do half hour profiles on professional players. According to a teaser from the network: “Each episode will explore the individual behind the legend – and, in their own words. Detailed interviews from poker’s greatest champions reveal their fascinating backstories. Interviews with family, friends, professional rivals, and expert poker-analysts dig deeper into their legacies.”
Another part of the first lineup is Inside Poker, which will be hosted by tournament director Matt Savage. It will be recorded on location in various cities and will address “hot button” issues of interest to the poker community. The talk show format will bring in players, industry insiders and will include poker tips that viewers can employ when they play.
NBC Sports Network has been the Super High Roller Celebrity Shootout to give viewers a taste of what Poker Central will broadcast. Poker Central will also seek to air past tournaments from the World Poker Tour and World Series of Poker, since ESPN currently owns the rights to broadcast the live tournaments.
Poker Central is run by Dan Russell, senior vice president of Programming & Production at Poker Central and Sid Eshleman, who was previously chief distribution officer with Discovery, AMC and Turner Broadcasting.
