Market cap in place until 2020
The newly refurbished Casino Jai Alai, a Macau property owned and operated by SJM Holdings Ltd., will soon reopen with 30 gaming tables, according to a report in the Macao Daily News.
Angela Leong, managing director of the company and a member of the Legislative Assembly of Macau, made the announcement last month, but declined to say if the tables will be shifted from another SJM property in the territory.
Each operator is allotted a certain number of live gaming tables and may not exceed that limit. The Macau government has been less generous with table allotments for new resorts on the Cotai Strip, to keeping within a 3 percent annual cap on new-to-market tables. That cap is expected to remain in place until 2020.
SJM announced in November 2012 that it would temporarily close Casino Jai Alai for renovations. SJM CEO Ambrose So Shu Fai has said the property should be finished this month and open for business by the end of the year.
While pledging to serve VIP customers, the operator also said Casino Jai Alai’s new restaurants and shops will also boost business at its adjacent Casino Oceanus, which targets the mass-market trade.
