34th Horse Dies at Santa Anita Racetrack

The 34th horse to die at Southern California’s Santa Anita Racetrack since December was a three-year-old gelding that stumbled during the fifth race on October 19 and fractured its left front ankle.

The track’s veterinarian euthanized the horse. The Stronach Group, which owns the racetrack, announced that there will be a necropsy of the horse to determine if there was something that might have been done to prevent the accident. The group has also promised to work with the California Horse Racing Board to investigate the death.
