$490 Million Casino Nears Opening in Vancouver B.C.

The first big hotel to open in Vancouver, British Columbia, the Parq Vancouver (l.), will be a casino hotel that will cater to the business traveler. Sure, it will have slot machines and gaming tables, but it will recall business-friendly hotels like the Ned in London.

The 0 million casino project Parq Vancouver is being built by Paragon Gaming as a business-friendly casino, rather than another Las Vegas knock-off. It is expected to open this fall.

The proposal originated in 2010, when it was proposed for downtown Vancouver, British Columbia near its existing Edgewater Casino. It will include a 775,000-square foot project with 517 hotel rooms, eight restaurants and a casino with 600 slots, 75 gaming tables and a high limit floor with luxury private salons.

The project, which is in cooperation with Marriot International Inc. will be reminiscent of business-friendly hotels like London’s the Ned. It will have 60,000 SF of meeting space, outdoor terraces, meeting pods and the city’s largest hotel ballroom.

The sixth floor will include a 30,000 SF indoor open-air park with hundreds of pine trees. Another floor will lead to BC Place stadium. Unlike most casino, it will have natural light.

Paragon CEO Scott Menke told the Malay Mail “The revenues in Vancouver have grown consistently within the past 10 years; pretty much every other market has not seen a raise in table revenues.” Flights between Vancouver and China have increased by almost a quarter in six months and is expected to increase by 46 percent in the next year and a half.

Ten million people visited the city last year, the highest number in its history.

This will be the first major hotel development in the city since the 2010 Olympics.
