$50 Million Tropicana Evansville Breaks Ground

A groundbreaking ceremony will take place Tuesday, July 19 for the new $50 million, 75,000 square foot Tropicana Evansville in Indiana--the first of the state's 10 riverboats to move to land. The new facility will feature a 45,000 square feet gaming floor, upscale restaurant and bar, deli and performance venue.

On Tuesday, July 19 in Evansville, Indiana, ground will be broken for Tropicana Evansville’s new million, 75,000 square foot entertainment complex. Scheduled to open in December 2017, it will be the first of the state’s riverboat casinos to move ashore. Tropicana General Manager John Chaszar said, “Evansville is the entertainment hub of the entire Tri-State area. This extensive expansion project, along with Tropicana’s distinctive service program, will provide guests with a new and vibrant hospitality experience.”

Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke, Tropicana Entertainment President and Chief Executive Officer Tony Rodio and Indiana Gaming Commission Executive Director Sara Tait will attend the ceremony.

The expansion, to be built between Tropicana’s existing hotel towers, will include 45,000 square feet of new gaming space, an upscale restaurant and bar, a deli and a lounge/entertainment venue.

Last year the Indiana legislature passed legislation allowing the state’s 10 riverboats to build new casinos on land near their current sites.

When the new Tropicana is completed, the riverboat will close, officials said.

Currently Indiana has one existing land-based casino in French Lick. Shelbyville and Anderson land-based racinos have slots but no table games.
