The Macau government has launched plans to expand the city’s International Airport with a new passenger terminal at the Taipa Ferry Terminal.
The expansion will encompass four boarding gates and 12 to 16 check-in counters with a combined capacity to accommodate daily service for at least four airlines and handle between 1.5 million and 2 million passengers per year.
Construction is expected to begin in the second half of 2021. No price tag was released.
Passenger volume fell by 50 percent in the first quarter as a result of Covid-related travel restrictions, but that’s not expected to last.
Last year, the airport handled 9.6 million passengers, up 16 percent over 2018, and more than 77,580 aircraft movements, an increase of 18 percent.
