Nevada returned to the top of America’s growing legal sports betting industry in June, booking more than $322 million in wagers.
It was the state’s largest handle ever for June, defying the typically slow summer season, a period lacking any events on the scale of the Super Bowl and March Madness. Nevada came in in well above second-place New Jersey, which racked up $273 million.
The NBA Finals delivered respectable handle but little revenue, thanks to the Toronto Raptors‘ upset victory over the Golden State Warriors. Of the more than $51 million bet on basketball, the books kept only $946,000, or 1.8 percent.
Overall, though, the books won at a robust clip of more than 5 percent, in line with historical trends, and that translated into $16.6 million in revenue for the Silver State’s casinos.
Baseball accounted for nearly two out of every three wagers placed during the month, more than $208 million in all, and delivered $11.6 million in revenue.
Other sports, including hockey, golf and tennis, accounted for more than $60 million in handle and $4.6 million in win.
