Atlantic City Council approved resolutions August 25 to ban smoking in casinos. The resolution supported Senate Bill 1878.
The 2007 New Jersey Smoke-Free Air Act eliminated indoor but granted an exemption for the casinos. A subsequent city ordinance restricted smoking to no more than 25 percent of the gaming floor, according to the Press of Atlantic City.
Those in favor of smoke-free casinos call this “loophole” discriminatory to casino employees. The Casino Association of New Jersey, a trade group, opposes the ban insisting it would mean fewer gamblers, this fewer jobs and loss of tax revenue.
