The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) is continuing its fight against illegal iGaming and marketing websites, this time by requesting internet service providers (ISPs) to block an additional six websites that it says are illegally fielding bets from Australian residents.
The agency listed the following sites as being in violation of the country’s Interactive Gambling Act 2001: Gamblers Lab, Win Paradise, Extra Vegas, LegitGamblingSites.com, Winnerama and Casino Moons.
The recent request is the latest in a series of moves by the ACMA to curb the proliferation of offshore sites—earlier this month, the agency issued a formal warning to Proxous Advanced Solutions for knowingly sub-licensing casino software to a number of illegal sites, which was the first such warning of its kind.
The ACMA has also ramped up the number of block requests issued to the county’s ISPs, having blocked nearly 600 sites since it started issuing requests at the end of 2019.
In a previous statement, the agency said that ““The ACMA is reminding consumers that even if a service looks legitimate, it’s unlikely to have important customer protections. This means Australians who use illegal gambling services risk losing their money.”
