Sheldon Adelson was the highest-paid CEO in Nevada last year, according to a new state-by-state ranking compiled in part by The Associated Press.
With total compensation of $24 million in 2018, the chairman and chief executive of Las Vegas Sands was one of only two gaming executives to make the list, a joint project of AP and Equilar. The other was Churchill Downs CEO William Carstanjen, whose pay totaled $21.1 million.
Compensation was calculated as a combination of salary, bonuses, stock awards, stock options and deferred compensation for CEOs who’ve served at least two years at publicly traded companies with revenues of least $1 billion.
The 85-year-old Adelson, whose duties have been restricted since late last year while he undergoes treatment for cancer, ranked 12th of the 50 state leading CEOs.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk, at $2.28 billion, was No. 1.
