African Trade Show Triples in Size

Gambling Indaba, the largest gaming industry trade show in Africa, has tripled in size in the wake of its relocation to Johannesburg, South Africa.

Gambling Indaba, the premier gaming industry trade show and conference in Africa, announced that the show has tripled in size after moving to Johannesburg, South Africa early this month.

Following a successful inaugural show last year, moving the event to the hub of the African gaming industry this year saw a massive increase in industry support and drew a number of new exhibitors, including some of world’s leading manufacturers of gaming equipment and slot machines including IGT, Novomatic, Scientific Games and Aristocrat.

Gambling Indaba was held for the first time in Johannesburg, South Africa at Emperors Palace, and the expanded African Gambling Trade Event was also proudly supported this year by two of Africa’s largest casino operators, Sun International and Peermont, with Sun International hosting the event’s Gala Dinner at Carnival City Casino.

The event also drew the support of SAGMA (South African Gaming Manufacturers Association), an industry body that represents the majority of gaming suppliers for the first time, as well as GLI University, which hosted a Regulators’ Seminar.

“We are extremely excited by the growth and success Gambling Indaba has experienced,” said Percy Kwinda, CEO of Gambling Indaba. “Not only has the conference program grown in stature and content, with a number of high-level industry speakers, but our expo floor has also shown phenomenal growth through the support of operators, regulators and manufacturers, who recognize the need for an event like Gambling Indaba. where the African gaming industry can gather to not only network and meet potential new business partners, but where manufacturers can showcase their products at a one-stop event that draws buyers and operators from all over Africa and the Indian Ocean islands.

“We expect these numbers to grow next year, as the number of international operators looking to do business on the African continent is expected to increase. Next year’s event will also cater for sports-betting and online gaming, as well as bingo, LPMs (AWPs) and a number of allied industries.”

Feedback from the industry and buyers was also positive. “Congratulations on an amazing event,” said Elmarie van Wyk, general manager of Sun International. “The expo was awesome. It is not every day that we get an opportunity to see most suppliers with their newest products on the same day.”
