Hong Kong-based gaming company Amax International Holdings Ltd. has proposed a name change to “refresh” its corporate image and brand, the company informed the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in a September 9 filing. Pending approval by shareholders and by the Registrar of Companies in Bermuda, it could soon become known as Century Entertainment International Holdings Ltd.
The company headed by businessman Ng Man Sun has gaming operations in Vanuatu and a VIP room in Cambodia, reported Macau Business. It previously sold its mobile games application business to Cambodian casino operator Galaxy World Co. Ltd. for HK$30 million (US$3.8 million).
The company also once operated the Greek Mythology Casino at the Beijing Imperial Palace Hotel. The hotel was forced to close in 2016 following an ownership dispute. A number of travel agencies sued the hotel’s parent company, Empresa Hoteleira de Macau, a company owned by Ng, for not honoring guest reservations. Amax wrote off a 24.8 percent stake in the venture in February.
Asia Gaming Brief reported that Amax has been “working on a diversification strategy away from Macau gaming, such as IT solutions businesses, as well as VR/AR and mobile games.
