Andalusia Spain has approved tighter gambling player protections as part of its Andalusia Gambling Regulations, which supplement Spain’s national regulations in the territory and open the territory to sports betting.
The act calls for self-exclusion program as well as stricter age verification and identity controls. They apply to land-based sports betting as well as online gaming. The rules do open Andalusia to sports betting, which was previously not allowed in the territory.
The regulations allow sports betting in specific gambling establishments, but will not be permitted in non-gaming establishments such as bars and hotels.
The new rules are expected to double the amount the region raises in gaming tax revenue. The revenue forecast for gambling taxes in Andalusia reached €1.15m in the last year and is expected to rise by as much as €2.8m next year and as much as €5m in 2019, according to local reports.
