Aquis Entertainment has announced the appointment of Geoff Andres as its new chief executive officer. Andres will lead the overhaul of Casino Canberra into a Las-Vegas-style entertainment precinct, reported the Canberra Times.
“Geoff will be the most experienced gaming CEO in Australia and it’s encouraging that he has been able to see the vision we have for the growth of Aquis in Australia and has chosen to be part of that,” said Aquis Managing Director Justin Fung. “The Canberra project is our absolute focus right now and this appointment will help ensure that we deliver a world-class outcome.”
Hong Kong billionaire Tony Fung, who bought the site for $6 million in December 2014, revealed plans for a new integrated casino, dining and nightlife complex last month. Aquis also plans to build an $8 billion integrated resort in the Great Barrier Reef.
Andres is currently a senior vice president and general manager at Sands Macau, where he has overseen a major redevelopment program across the 289-room five star resort.
His appointment is subject to approval by the ACT Gambling and Racing Commission.
