Anjuna: Offshore Casino Would Disrupt Fisheries

The government or panchayat of Anjuna-Caisua in Goa, India has voted unanimously to oppose a proposed relocation of offshore casinos to the River Chapora. The members believe casinos would pollute the water, interrupt fishing, and lead to social problems.

The panchayat of Anjuna-Caisua in Goa have agreed by unanimous vote that relocating casinos offshore could negatively affect the fishing industry and also “pollute the river due to the discharge of untreated water.”

According to the Navhind Times, a casino also would “result in influx of anti-social elements and encourage various illegal activities” lead to underage gambling, and contribute to compulsive gambling.
