Marja Appelman announced she will step down as chief executive at the Netherlands Gambling Authority effective August 1, after almost five years, due to being appointed executive director of the Housing Market Directorate at the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations. Appelman also will step down as the chair of the Gaming Regulators European Forum. Vice-Chair Claire Pinson will fill the position until the 2019 annual meeting.

Established in 2012, the Gambling Authority pursued consumer protection, preventing gambling addiction and combatting crime. Appelman promoted growth and professionalism; under her supervision the gambling market became more proactive, more risk based and more focused on international cooperation.

Appelman also served as vice chair of the GREF board. During her inauguration as chair, she called for members to conduct a broad dialogue about the future of the organization.
