Argentina Rescinds Three Licenses

The government of Mendoza Province in Argentina has chosen not to renew the licenses of three casinos in the vicinity. Lawmakers say the gaming halls, including Casino Mendoza in Uspallata (l.), failed to meet regulators’ objectives.

Casinos were money-losers

Three casinos in Mendoza, in the Cuyo region of Argentina, will close next month when their licenses expire.

According to Casino.org, the mayors of three cities—Eugenio Bustos, Uspallata and La Consulta—along with the local chamber of commerce declined to renew the licenses, with terms ending August 24.

Josefina Canale, president of the Provincial Institute of Games and Casinos, said the decision was based on an impact study concluding the casinos did not achieve their mandated goals of generating tourism and revenues; in fact, says the gaming board, they were losing money.

“After paying prizes and costs, the casinos produced a loss,” said Canale, adding that casinos in the cities of Tunuyán and Tupungato could face similar outcomes if they do not show better outcomes. Those licenses expire next March.
