Crown Casino, the gaming operator in Argentina, has begun a major $11.5 million casino building project, Sol del Rio in the province of Rio Negro Viedma. The project will be developed in phases, with the first phase completed with three years.
Public hearings were held in February, at which time the municipal government demanded additions, such a paving for all of the roads that will surround the project.
Plans are for a casino, 54-room hotel, food court, convention center, and retail shopping. About a year ago Crown signed a contract with the Sol de Mayo football club for the transfer of about five acres of waterfront property in return for Crown investing $114 million to improve the existing football facilities, including fields and pool.
The license for operating its casinos at Las Grutas, El Cóndor, Viedma, Cipolletti, Roca, Choele Choel and Catriel runs until 2042. One reason the province agreed to extend the gaming license was because Crown said it could improve taxes from gaming as well as making the inspection process more transparent.
