Arizona Casino Announces Expansion

The Ak-Chin Indian Community plans to expand its Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino in Maricopa, Arizona, with a $100 million expansion that will include 200 more hotel rooms and several restaurants. The expansion will break ground early next year.

Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino in Maricopa, Arizona, owned by the Ak-Chin Indian Community, is planning a 0 million expansion.

The expansion, due to begin next spring, will add 200 hotel rooms to the existing 300, plus a spa, conference center, ballroom and new dining options.

Tribal Chairman issued a statement in which he said, “The Ak-Chin Indian Community has a long-standing and successful relationship with Caesars Entertainment and the management at Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino. The expansion will allow the hotel and casino to continue to bring quality hospitality and entertainment to Pinal County and the State of Arizona.”

The expansion comes when the tribe is expecting some additional competition, including the controversial Tohono O’odham Nation, which hopes to open its 1.2 million square foot West Valley Resort & Casino adjacent to Glendale, in the Phoenix metropolitan area next year.

That places it in a position to challenge the Ak-Chin’s perch as one of the premier casino destinations in the southern part of the state.
