Arizona’s Talking Stick Casino Reopens After Storm

The Talking Stick Resort and Casino near Scottsdale, Arizona, is reopening after six weeks of repairs to address damages caused by a monsoon storm that knocked out power August 10 &11.

Original estimates of one week to make repairs were wildly optimistic. The resort issued a statement: “Daily assessments have revealed that more time is needed to complete storm damage repairs and to replace the equipment required to ensure the property is up to the highest level of standards to which our guests have grown accustomed.”

The reason it took so long was that the storm knocked out the tribe’s distribution box, said a spokesman, Ramon Martinez. “Our power source is manufactured specifically for this structure, so it had to be manufactured, and so it’s taking time.”

In the spirit of making lemonade from lemons, the tribe decided to do some needed upgrades while the casino was closed.

The casino is offering various promotion to entice customers back, including cash prizes totaling more than $150,000.
