Arrests Follow Macau Marketing Raids

Macau’s Judiciary Police raided 19 apartments and seized equipment used to send gaming-related communications. Nine suspects from Mainland China and Taiwan have been detained following the action on February 15.

The IT Crimes Division of Macau’s Judiciary Police arrested nine people following the raid of 19 apartments near the Border Gate section of the city, according to the Macau Daily Times.

According to the publication, the detainees are suspected of illegal betting and other organized crime activities conducted over the past six months. The members of the group reportedly sent “millions” of text messages at the behest of gambling rings that paid them one cents to two cents per messages.

In a similar case last November, law enforcement arrested four men who allegedly operated a fake mobile base station in the Border Gate district. During that operation, police found 29 computers and other telecommunications devices.
