At Last! Nevada Breaks $1 Million in Online Revenue

Thank the World Series of Poker for propelling Nevada’s sluggish online gaming revenue beyond the million-dollar mark. The WSOP in June led to a 40 percent boost in Caesars Interactive’s web traffic.

First-year revenues in three states have been lackluster

Thanks to the recent World Series of Poker in June, Nevada’s three online poker websites—WSOP.com, Ultimate Poker and Real Gaming—collected a combined $1.037 million in gaming revenue. According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, it was the first time the state’s online poker community exceeded the $1 million mark.

Caesars Interactive Entertainment, which owns the World Series of Poker and WSOP.com, reported that website traffic spiked by 40 percent in June. “We became the No. 1 internet poker offering in the country, outdoing the online sites in New Jersey as well,” Caesars Interactive spokesman Seth Palansky said. “It was a successful summer all around. There were a lot of lessons learned on making this work.”

Before June, Nevada’s poker websites averaged $921,800 per month in revenue, and the numbers in New Jersey and Delaware have been underwhelming. Delaware’s online gaming  industry brought in $1.2 million in revenue, according to state authorities who had projected $5 million in the first year. New Jersey’s six online casinos have produced $63 million in revenue. Most analysts predicted twice that amount.
