Atari To Introduce Cryptocurrency Token

Atari, makers of Asteroids, Pac-Man, Space Invaders, Pong and other classic arcade games, announced the creation of the Atari Token, to be associated with cryptocurrency-based casino platforms.

To move the project forward, Atari made a deal with Gibraltar-based Infinity Networks. Atari will not make a cash investment but will allow Infinity Networks to use the Atari brand under a long-term licensing agreement.

An Atari spokesman said, “The company is developing a decentralized platform giving access to any form of digital entertainment, that is to say, a very wide offer ranging from video games to movies and music. The platform, under development, will operate using a cryptocurrency, the Atari Token.”

Observers noted Kodak’s recent venture into tokens and Initial Coin Offerings faced intense investor interest which led to strict regulatory challenges. But they said Atari’s plan includes making the Atari Token a potentially valuable asset.

Atari also recently extended its partnership with gaming platform Pariplay. Later this year they plan to introduce casino platforms that would “allow players to bet either in real money or with most cryptocurrencies currently outstanding.”

Atari also announced it will launch the Pong Token to cash in on retro game nostalgia and boost interest in the cryptocurrency casino project.
