Atlantic City iGaming-Linked Casinos Surge

The revenue report for the fourth quarter of 2014 show that the casinos linked to internet gaming sites outperformed those that do not host sites.

Fourth-quarter revenue numbers for the eight casinos of Atlantic City show an upswing in revenues for the entire market, but the largest increases were realized by those properties that host internet casinos.

Aside from the struggling Trump Taj Mahal, casinos linked to iGaming sites all saw increases for the last three months of 2014 that were higher than those without sites. The Golden Nugget saw the largest increase, a 50.4 percent year-on-year jump. Tropicana registered a 33.8 percent increase, and Borgata rose 14 percent.

The numbers held up for the entire year as well. When compared to 2013, Borgata’s net revenue rose 14 percent in 2014; Golden Nugget, 36.4 percent; and Tropicana, 24 percent. Of the casinos not hosting gaming websites, Harrah’s increased 0.6 percent and Resorts, which recently added an online platform, increased 10.1 percent. Bally’s and Caesars logged revenue declines.

Overall, the Atlantic City casino industry recorded a 12 percent revenue rise for the fourth quarter, which local operators hope signal a turning of the corner after the closing last year of four casinos.
