Australia Cashes In on Asian Tourists

Chinese and other Asians tourists are visiting in Australia in record numbers, with arrivals more than doubling from 2015 to 2016. Needless to say, it’s been good for the gaming industry.

Call for more Asian attractions

More than 2.3 million Asian tourists visited Australia in 2016, more than double the number that came through in 2015. It’s been a big boon for the country’s gaming industry. Although Chinese tourists make up just 4 percent of casino customers overall, reports the Australian Business Review, Chinese VIPs comprise 90 percent to 95 percent of the high-roller action.

Crown Resorts and Star Entertainment have benefited from this coveted demographic, according to Casino.org. But industry analysts say the companies could reap even greater rewards if they exert themselves to specifically attract and accommodate a Chinese and Southeast Asian clientele.

Citi Australia explained the disparity is greatest in Queensland, which needs to offer more Asian restaurants and themed attractions as well as Asian hosts and Asian signage.
