The Australian Federal Police (AFP) have announced they are closing a three-year inquiry into gaming operator Tabcorp due to insufficient evidence.
The probe, which led to the resignation of Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) CEO Elmer Funke Kupper, began with allegations that the company paid $200,000 to family members of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen. The payment was purportedly part of a bid on Tabcorp’s part to win a Cambodian sports betting license.
At the time of the investigation, reported iGamingBusiness, com, Tabcorp said it had chosen not to launch in the Cambodian market.
During the AFP investigation, Funke Kupper went on “a leave of absence” as a Tabcorp Holdings corporate director. He had previously served as the company’s CEO, before going on to become the CEO of the ASX, a post he later resigned.
