SkyCity Adelaide in South Australia’s capital reopened for business to members only on June 29, with reduced hours and with extra health and safety measures in place.
SkyCity Adelaide General Manager David Christian commented, “We have a comprehensive plan in place to ensure our guests and staff are safe, and we look forward to showcasing some of the transformation projects that have continued during our closure. With a workforce of more than 1,200 South Australians, our priority has remained getting our team back to work safely as we enter a historic period for SkyCity with the opening of our expansion and hotel later in 2020.”
Christian said the shutdown period “allowed us to review our supply chain and adapt our offerings to ensure that we are increasing our support for local producers and suppliers even further.”
The AU$330 million (US$248 million) expansion of the facility, called EOS, has also continued, and according to Asia Gaming Brief, is apparently still on track to open later this year.
Also in Australia, Star Entertainment Group reopened its flagship property, Star Sydney in New South Wales on June 1, and its two Queensland casinos, the Star Gold Coast and the Treasury Brisbane, on July 3. The latter two properties had maximum capacities of 2,600 people and 2,300 people respectively, reported Inside Asian Gaming; Star Sydney was permitted a maximum of 5,000 patrons on the main gaming floor. All gaming tables and EGMs are allowed to operate provided guests observe social distancing requirements.
“The health and well-being of our customers and staff remain paramount as we move to this next stage of reopening our properties,” said Star Entertainment Group Managing Director and CEO Matt Bekier. “The conservative approach in managing the reopening of The Star Sydney in June 2020 provides us with further confidence in our operating and safety procedures. This next stage enables us to welcome back an additional approximately 3,000 employees, as well as a large number of our members and guests to safe and entertaining environments.”
