Australian Court Rules Bet365 Mislead Customers

Bet365 was found to have mislead Australian customers by offering a “free” introductory bet that actually had wager requirements attached. A penalty phase for the ruling is still to be held.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has won a complaint against Bet365 that the company had used a deceptive practice by offering a “free” introductory bet that had wager requirements attached.

According to yogonet.com, the commission took Bet365’s Australian and UK companies, Hillside (Australia New Media) and Hillside (Shared Services) to federal court on accusations of misleading and deceiving practices to the detriment of consumers. The complaint said that over a 10-month period, Bet365 offered a $200 ‘free’ bets for new customers, but customers where required to gamble their deposit and the promotion bonus three times before being able to withdraw any winnings.

The court ruled that Hillside had misled and deceived customers. A separate trial will be held to determine penalties, Yogonet reported.
