Britain’s bookies want to promote the relationship between staff and customers and have launched a “Back Your Local Bookie” campaign.

The campaign has already drawn 400,000 signatures to a petition of support. The petition states that ‘responsible gambling is at the heart of the day to day running of betting shops.”

Last year’s campaign drew 325,000 signatures from betting shop staff and consumers.

This year’s campaign comes as British bookmakers are bracing for a reduction in the maximum amount of money that can be bet at fixed odds betting terminals, the primary source of retail betting revenue in the country. The UK government is in a public comment phase, but is expected to significantly downsize the current 100-pound maximum bet.

The association has warned that a reduction could lead to the closing of many local betting shops.

The campaign also comes just weeks after the first ever ‘Responsible Gambling Week,’ where the country’s bookmakers emphasized tools they provide to combat problem gambling.
