Once known as Louis XIII Holdings
The 13 Holdings Ltd., promoter of a beleaguered hotel on Macau’s Cotai-Coloane border, has formally changed its name to South Shore Holdings Ltd. The change was made official in a June 21 filing to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.
It’s not the first name change for the company, reported GGRAsia. In April 2016, the group originally known as Louis XIII Holdings changed its name to the 13. It turned out to be an unlucky number for the luxury hotel, which has been in the planning stages for six years and still has not opened its doors.
The owners conceded they wanted to change the group name to “provide a clear delineation” between the firm’s corporate identity and that of its principal asset. The group’s secondary Chinese name has also been changed, along with the corporate logo.
The most recent setback for the 13 Hotel, which is reportedly due to open before the end of June, was notification that it would have to apply for reinspection in order to get a hotel license; the hotel apparently was inspected before it was complete.
In October 2017, the 13 Holdings announced a proposed rights issue to raise gross proceeds of approximately HKD1.01 billion (US$129 million) toward the cost of the 13 Hotel venture. In a February 25 filing, the firm said the casino at the 13 Hotel might open in March 2019 along with some shops at the complex.
