Baker Resigns as Head of Macau’s Grand Lisboa Palace

Paul Baker has stepped down as president of the Grand Lisboa Palace casino resort, four years after joining the Macau unit of SJM Holdings Ltd. Baker spent four years with SJM and took part in the property’s long-awaited launch in July 2021.

Baker previously spent four years at Genting Malaysia Bhd, operator of casino resorts in Asia, the United States and the United Kingdom. He also served briefly as executive vice president of resort operations at Wynn Macau, and as vice president and assistant general manager at several Caesars Entertainment properties in Las Vegas.

According to GGRAsia, Baker’s departure is the latest in an executive exodus that also includes Lu Tsai, vice president of casino marketing, and Vince Leat, vice president of loyalty marketing and customer relationship management.

“Some employees tendered their resignations due to respective personal reasons,” the company said in a statement to the news outlet. “Their resignation will have no impact on the company’s operation.”

The personnel changes at Grand Lisboa Palace followed a shakeup in upper management at SJM Resorts. In September, the firm appointed Daisy Ho as its managing director. Ho, who is also chairman and executive director of Hong Kong-listed SJM Holdings, replaced Angela Leong in the role.

At the time, SJM said Ho was “granted expanded management rights and authorities” and is “responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the company and corporate matters.”
