Ban on Casino Ads Proposed in Argentina

Legislation that would prevent gaming establishments in Argentina from advertising has been proposed by National Deputy Omar Duclos. If approved, the plan would bar advertisements for gaming in print, press and online media as well as in public places like shopping centers.

A proposal from Argentinian National Deputy Omar Duclos would prohibit gaming-related advertisements throughout the country, reports Intergameonline.com. The bill was submitted to Argentina’s National Congress earlier this month.

If passed, the proposal would permit in-house promotions, but “only if they carried messages alerting players to problems associated with compulsive gambling,” the website reported.

According to Duclos, such measures are necessary to “change the paradigm that sees gambling as a reliable source of tax revenue.

“It is essential to adopt concrete measures to make the public aware of the negative effects of compulsive gambling and to prevent gambling addictions,” he said.
