The British Columbia Lottery Corp. (BCLC) has been recognized for its work to advance “Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging” (DI&B). Last week, HR Director Canada recognized BCLC as a 5-Star Diversity & Inclusion Employer for “going above and beyond” in fostering authentic inclusivity.

BCLC was the only Canadian company recognized in the category for organizations with 500 to 2,499 employees.

“As a social-purpose company, we work to generate win-wins for the greater good and fostering a more inclusive culture is an important part of how we do that for our people,” said Sandy Austin, interim chief people officer for BCLC. “We are proud of what we have accomplished but acknowledge there is still progress to be made on our journey towards diversity, inclusion and belonging for all.”

In May 2022, BCLC was also named as a Leading Diversity and Inclusion Employer by the Canadian HR Reporter. Among its peers in the gaming industry, BCLC was also named in April 2022 as the North American winner of the EGR Awards in Diversity & Inclusion Model.

In a statement, BCLC said “DI&B means investing in our people and building inclusive policies, processes and structures to foster a culture of inclusion that supports the growth and development of all employees. As an employer, it is our goal to create an environment free of discrimination and open to diverse perspectives, where all employees feel they are seen, heard and belong. As a business, we believe we must create experiences that are sensitive and responsive to the communities and players we serve.

“We recognize this will be an ongoing journey and that we have a lot of work ahead of us—and we are passionate and committed to doing our part,” the agency stated.
