Beau Rivage Offers Crooked Letter Beer

Before Hurricane Katrina struck, Crooked Letter beers were brewed on-site at Coast Brewing Company at Beau Rivage Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi. Now, after a year of development and taste-testing, the casino will offer three new Crooked Letter beers.

Beau Rivage Casino Resort in Biloxi, Mississippi recently announced it will offer three beers from the year-old Crooked Letter Brewing Company in Ocean Springs, including Sheep Shank Ale, Anchor Bend Imperial Stout and Double Half Hitch Imperial.

Previously the brewery produced seven beers at the casino’s Coast Brewing Company before Hurricane Katrina hit. Beau Rivage Beverage Manager Bruce Cartwright said, “A lot of our customers and the community, they’ve been missing those beers that we created and there was a little bit of a void.” Added Crooked Letter owners Paul and Wanda Blacksmith, “There’s a brewing history here and it seemed like a perfect fit.”

Cartwright said it took about a year of brewing and taste-testing to perfect the nautical flavored beers, which will be available on draft and in 12-ounce bottles.

Wanda Blacksmith said “it’s an honor” for her company’s beers to be sold at Beau Rivage in Biloxi as well as at Gold Strike Casino Resort in Tunica; both casinos are owned by MGM Grand. “It’s actually kind of overwhelming to have all the beers here with people tasting and liking them, knowing that people from all over the world can potentially taste the beers that came from Crooked Letter Brewing Company,” Blacksmith said.

The Golden Nugget and Hard Rock casinos in Biloxi also offer Crooked Letter beers.

Meanwhile in D’Iberville, City Attorney W. Fred Hornsby III said the new Scarlet Pearl Casino is “very close to wrapping their financing completely and breaking ground.” The Mississippi Gaming Commission granted developers permission to proceed with construction last December.
