Belarus Readies New Gaming Legal Framework

The Republic of Belarus is nearly completed work on a new legal framework for its casinos, including online casinos. The new laws await approval by Parliament.

Belarus, one of the former republics of the old Soviet Union is readying a new legal structure for gaming and online casinos in the country. The framework, submitted by the Tax and Duties Ministry, awaits formal approval by Parliament.

It includes a tax structure that would not change for at least three years. Minister Sergey Nalivaiko noted that the legal age for gambling would be raised from 18 to 21 and patrons would be forbidden from borrowing money to play.

It includes provisions for online casinos and would allow casinos to register taxable items such as slot machines and tables, presumably to be able to deduct the expense. This will allow machines to be taxed in a fixed amount.

The minister, quoted by E-playonline added, At this stage, considering the planned legalization of online gambling and additional investments needed to organize a new type of activity in the gambling business, the Ministry of Taxes and Duties does not plan any changes in the taxation policy of this activity.”
