Belgium Separates iGaming Products

Belgium’s high court has ruled that online gaming operators may not host different types of games on the same website. This reflects existing law in land-based casinos, where sportsbooks and casino gaming are separated.

Belgium Separates iGaming Products

The Constitutional Court of Belgium has ruled that online gaming operators may not offer different types of games—for example, sports betting and casino gaming—on the same website.

This action annuls the 1999 Gambling Act, which had largely been superseded by an updated version in 2019. In fact, the only practical effect of the ruling is to confirm the separation of online gaming products.

This brings online gaming in line with brick and mortar gaming, which in Belgium are also separated: sports betting may not be offered in a casino.
