The City of Belleville, Ontario is benefitting from the Shorelines Casino Belleville, which opened about a year ago. The city has already decided to take the $2.7 million the casino has paid it and use $1.7 million for capital upgrades and salt away the rest.
Belleville Mayor Taso Christopher announced that some of that money will be used for roadwork and a new license-plate reading technology for police. This will enable police to single out those who are driving without a license or insurance.
The city will also spend on infrastructure and upgrading Victoria Harbour. Great Canadian Gaming operates the Shorelines Casino, which pays the city between 5.25 percent and 3 percent.
