Mark Anthony Brown has been named the new CEO of Best Sunshine International Ltd. Brown, a former executive for both the Trump and Sands organizations, is “credited as the man behind the construction of the Venetian, Four Seasons and Sands Macau hotels,” according to a report in Marianas Variety.
He spent 10 months as the chief operations officer for NagaWorld in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
According to a statement on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, Brown “has laid the foundation for a VIP market in Macau and China.” During his time with NagaWorld, he helped to strengthen the company’s junket program. It attracted more than $4 billion in player business over the first nine months of this year alone, according to online sources.
Brown said he joined Best Sunshine because he was impressed by its commitment to the community. Sunshine has made an offer to provide $10 million in community chest funds.
“Who else would do that? This company did that to show good faith. We’re here to do good,” said Brown.
He also said he enjoys working in Saipan. “The people are so nice, and this is the most beautiful place in the world you have never heard of.”
Sunshine plans to develop a $7.1 billion integrated resort on the island. No location has yet been determined.
Before working for NagaWorld, Brown served as senior vice president for strategic development at Wynn/Encore Las Vegas, and four years as president at Las Vegas Sands Corp. He was president of Sands Macao and the Venetian Macao Resort from 2006 until 2009. He was previously CEO of Trump Hotels & Casino Resorts Inc.’s Casino Operations Group. He also served as president and CEO of Trump Hotels & Casino Resorts Inc. from January 1995 to August 2005.
The Atlantic City native has been involved in gaming “my whole career,” and he has been a part of the industry since the shore resort’s first casino opened in 1976. “I jumped in and loved it.” In the years since, “I mastered every single game in the casino,” he said.
Saipan Governor Eloy S. Inos yesterday said Best Sunshine is not exempted from taxes and will be required to pay them once it starts its hotel-casino business on Saipan. Some opponents had said Best Sunshine would get 40 years of tax exemption as claimed by his critics.
“They will have to pay their taxes. They will be required to pay income tax after certain preference deductions. They are not exempted,” Inos said.
